At the resumed hearing of Saraki's case yesterday May 17th, Danladi said the allegations of bias against Saraki are untrue and unfounded.
He recalled that during the trial of former Lagos state governor, Bola Tinubu, the tribunal was under pressure to convict him but the tribunal did the right thing. He swore that in Saraki's case, the tribunal would do justice without fear or favor.

Poor power supply: Blame pipeline Vandals , not us' - Electricity distributors tell Nigerians

The Association of Nigeria Electricity Distributors of Nigeria otherwise known as DISCOs, have asked Nigerians to stop blaming them for the poor supply of electricity being experienced nationwide.

At a press briefing in Lagos yesterday May 17th, the Executive Director of the Association, Sunday Oduntan, said electricity distributors are denied access to gas whenever vandals rupture any pipeline in the Niger Delta.

Oduntan also decried the acts of brutality electricity workers face in the hands of military officers over electricity bills.
"Each time they vandalize gas pipeline in Niger Delta, or anywhere, they are denying the gas station the essential gas which is used to generate electricity. So shortage of gas leads to low generation of electricity. Low generation and poor transmission facility  leads to low distribution. Therefore, Discos are not to blame for poor power supply in Nigeria. There is a place in Abeokuta called Alamala barracks, some soldiers led by a major from Alamala barracks went to a place called Rounder to beat one of our individual staff and we have the pictures of this incident. Up till today, nothing has been done by the military authority. We call on the Federal government, particularly President Buhari who is a retired general, to call his boys to order. We cannot continue to run a country where the military will be beating our boys when we are only asking them to pay their bills"he said

FG tells workers "You must go to work today, no work no pay" despite lNLC's threat to continue with strike

Despite threats by the Ayuba Wabba faction of NLC to continue with its planned strike action today May 18th, the Federal Government has advised all workers in the Civil service to resume for work today, saying the no work no pay rule will be invoked in all ministries, agencies and department. Speaking after a meeting with labor yesterday May 17th, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal said:

"The National Industrial Court has given an injunction that no strike by NLC and TUC should hold tomorrow (today). It is therefore clear that anyone embarking on strike tomorrow (today) is doing so illegally and government is assuring all Nigerians to come out and do their jobs tomorrow (today). It the duty of government to provide security for her citizens and anyone who tries to coerce any worker to do their bidding would be made to face the law of the land. We had full cooperation with the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria and they said they are not going on strike. For them, it is a complete return to work tomorrow (Wednesday).
"It is not the same with the NLC however. They have two factions, one agreed completely with the position of the TUC. Government, therefore, calls upon and advises all workers to respect the laws of the land and to desist from participating in an illegal action. Government undertakes to guarantee the safety of workers and their workplaces, and expects that normal work will continue in the interest of the nation.
"Accordingly, security agencies have been directed to ensure unimpeded access to offices, workplaces and markets. Accordingly, all ministers, permanent secretaries and heads of government agencies are hereby directed to invoke the provision of ‘no work no pay’ in respect of any staff member who absents himself or herself from work to join the strike. Attendance registers are required to be opened in all Ministries, Departments and Agencies.”‎he said

Fuel Hike: Presidency Meets Labour Today to Stop Strike

The Federal Government has invited the leadership of the organised labour to a meeting in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation for today to discuss the increase of fuel pump price from N86 and N86.50k to N145.

Labour and the civil society had, after a meeting in Abuja on Saturday, given the Federal Government till midnight on Tuesday to reverse the increase or face an indefinite national strike. The group gave the strike notice in a joint communiqué issued by the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress after the meeting.

But the Presidency say there is no need for such since Labour know the truth in the fuel issue.

The General Secretary of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Dr. Peter Ozo-Eson said, “I have received a text message inviting us to a meeting tomorrow (Monday) at the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, and we will attend.

‘‘We will attend those meetings but the notice given is not conditional to our action. It is conditional on the reversal of the hike in the price of petroleum and the hike in electricity tariff. “But we are saying that is not what is crucial; what is crucial is that we will mobilise unless there is reversal. If there is no reversal, we will meet on the streets.”

Reacting, a source in the Ministry of Labour and Employment, said “The Federal Government does not want strike, we will discuss. Government is making every effort to ensure that there is no strike.”

United Kingdom Warns Buhari Against Military Action in Niger Delta

Authorities of the United Kingdom have urged President Muhammadu Buhari to avoid the use of force and rather diplomacy in quelling the Niger Delta Avengers insurgency.

Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari needs to address grievances in the Delta region where militants have been blowing up oil pipelines in a conflict that has become a “major concern”, a senior British official said yesterday.

The swamps of the southern Delta have been hit by a series of attacks on pipelines and other oil and gas facilities that have reduced Nigeria’s output by 300,000 barrels a day, closed a major export port and two refineries.

Nigeria has moved in army reinforcements to hunt the militants but British Foreign Minister Philip Hammond said Buhari needed to the deal with the root causes because a military confrontation could end in “disaster”. Crude sales from the Delta account for 70 percent of national income in Africa’s biggest economy but residents, some of whom sympathise with the militants, have long complained of poverty.

“It’s obviously a major concern,” Hammond told reporters on the sidelines of a regional security conference in Abuja when asked about the Delta situation. “The idea that your answer is by moving big chunks of the Nigerian army to the Delta simply doesn’t work,” he said, adding that the army did not have the capacity while fighting Boko Haram jihadists in the north. “It won’t deal with the underlying issues.”

“Buhari has got to show as a president from the north that he is not ignoring the Delta, that he is engaging with the challenges in the Delta,” Hammond said. Buhari is a Muslim from the north who has not visited the Christian Delta since taking office a year ago, something highlighted by a militant group, the Niger Delta Avengers, which has claimed a string of attacks on pipelines.

The group has warned oil firms to leave the region within two weeks and says it is fighting for independence for the Delta. It has said it wanted a greater share of oil revenues and an end to oil pollution.

The attacks have driven Nigerian oil output to near a 22-year low and, if the violence escalates into another insurgency, it could cripple output in a country facing a growing economic crisis.

Buhari, who has not commented about not visiting the Delta, has extended a multi-million dollar amnesty signed with militants in 2009 but upset them by ending generous pipeline protection contracts. He also cut the amnesty budget by around 70 percent, which partly funds training for unemployed.

Orji Uzor Kalu All Smiles as He Appeared in Court Over N5bn Theft (Photos)

At ‎the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Monday, former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, was arraigned on charges bordering on corruption.

Justice Anuli Chickere said she could not go on with the case when an aspect of the matter was still pending at the Supreme Court.

One of the parties charged in the case, Slok Airlines, which also belongs to Kalu, has an appeal pending at the apex court.

During proceedings, counsel to Slok Nigeria Limited, Solomon Akuma, drew the attention of the court to the pending appeal by his client, Slok Nigeria Limited, before the Supreme Court which had not been heard.

He informed the court that briefs in the appeal had been filed and exchanged, but no hearing date has been fixed for the appeal.

Akuma, therefore, asked for an adjournment to allow all parties to properly come before the court. The lawyers for the defendants also told the court that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) just served the former Governor an amended charge to replace the 107-count charge brought against him in 2007. They requested for time to study the charges and prepare adequately for the case.

The former Chief Executive of Abia State, is alleged to have, amongst other offences, while he was the Governor of Abia State in 2003, procured Slok Nigeria Limited to retain its account domiciled with a commercial bank in the sum of 200 million Naira and that the sum formed part of the funds illegally derived from the treasury of Abia State government through another commercial bank.

After hearing the arguments, Justice Chikere adjourned the case to June 30 to enable the third defendant conclude its appeal at the Supreme Court.

“Listen fellow Nigerians, as it is right now, most of what we are suffering now and we are going to suffer were caused few years ago but the Lord asked me to encourage you. “Suffering is coming but it is not suffering unto damnation, there is solution, it may take some time, but at the end of it, there will be testimonies”.

“As I have told you, there is going to be crisis but God will handle it. This year, God said my people will be over-comers, things will be hard but my people will be over- comers”.

I've Chosen Death to Give Biafrans a Better Life - Nnamdi Kanu Writes Emotional Poem from Prison

Nnamdi Kanu after a court appearance in Abuja

Incarcerated leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, on Thursday, May 12, released a poem from Kuje Prison in Abuja via his lawyer to his ardent supporters worldwide. Sit back, relax and read through Kanu's poem.

I am Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of Indigenous people of Biafra and also the director of radio Biafra.

I have restored Biafra without a gunshot, I have destroyed Nigeria with truth and I have conquered Nigeria with Chiukwuokikeabiama. They waited for me to bomb and shoot, but i refused to use metallic bullet and atomic bombs, I only used intellectual bullets and bombs and I have flawlessly won the war.

I stood just ordinary radio station and propagated the gospel of Chukwuokikeabiama, the word of God is power and that power have destroyed Nigeria and restored Biafra. I observed freedom of speech and fearlessly preached truth, I am fearless even before death because am prophesy of over 400 years ago.

If God is not man then his prophesy shall come to pass and those that stand against God will know Chiukwuokikeabiama is creation. I have lawfully followed stipulated procedures for self-determination and have never been involved in any form of violence or crime, I have always told you Biafrans to be disciplined and law-abiding and you have made me proud. I am grateful that we are whiter than white and whiter than snow.

We have no dishonour neither do we have any spot, they have killed us mercilessly and we have never killed back yet they arrested us and tried to break us to betray Biafra. They arrested me for saying the truth, nothing but the truth.

They arrested me for demanding Biafra, they arrested me for embracing freedom of speech. They conspired and arrested me for being lawful and demanding attention. They arrested me because peace is prohibited in Nigeria; they arrested me because dialogue is impossible in Nigeria. They arrested me because I refused to take up arms, they arrested me because I defeated them intellectually.

When a man is defeated by reason, he sought to discharge his frustration on justice. I am a prisoner of conscience and I am sure the world still have conscience. I am Nnamdi Kanu, I have chosen death, I shall die for Biafra and let my death give my generation a better life, let my death be a guarantee for a better future, let my death be your smile and let my death end your marginalization, subjugation, slavery and tears. I am Nnamdi Kanu the lion that chose death over the abuse of his people.

I instead die than renounce Biafra, give me Biafra or kill me is where I stand. I have been arrested for nothing. I am a prisoner of conscience, they are here to break me, to make me renounce Biafra but they don’t know me, they don’t know Biafra is my religion and they don’t know renouncing Biafra is a death sentence, is like committing suicide.

In their widest dream shall I commit suicide and I assure them that days of reckoning will come, for Chiukwuokikeabiama shall avenge the death of His children. I have taken an oath with the name of God that I shall never betray or give up Biafra because I knew this day will come. I am physically and psychologically prepared for this period.

I took the oath and staked my family, my generations and everything I am, and so giving up Biafra in any condition is impossible, even at gun point, I will only accept my inevitable death than renounce Biafra.

I have been arrested before but this time is more severe, the harder the price is the closer the Kingdom of God, even Yawehesua prayed that only if this cup will pass over him. They came with every tactics they know to deceive me into signing off Biafra, they promised me freedom, heaven and earth, but I told devil to get behind me for the Kingdom of God worth nothing man can offer.

I am more intelligent than them and I will defeat them to a point nothing will be left to fight for, Biafra will be and it has come to stay. I appeared in the court on 19th Feb 2016, in the face of this persecution to coerce me into giving up Biafra, I wore a clean white cloth and tagged Biafran flag under the pocket of my white lace. I tagged the flag there because that is where life is and this is to tell you that Biafra is why i breathe.

I will never ever disappoint you and will die for Biafra to come. The Biafran flag badge tagged on my white lace is to remind the world that I am resolute and shall never in this life accept their gold to sale Biafra. The world has no option except giving me Biafra and everything in Nigeria shall be at risk if anything happens to me. Biafrans love me and together we have chosen death or give us Biafra, should anything happen to me then my command remains.

Meanwhile, I have followed you great Biafrans and I must confess that I am satisfied, you have made me proud and my message to you all is to stay strong, remain resolute and focused.

We must not give up, we should continue pushing strong, we should continue our peaceful protest because it is frustrating Nigerian government and we must keep spreading the message of Biafra and at the end we shall win.

EFCC Seizes N860m Mansion From Ex-Chief Of Air Staff

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has sealed off a mansion allegedly belonging to a former Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Mohammed Umar (retd).

The house located on 1853 Deng Xiano Ping Street, off Mahathir Mohammed Street, Asokoro Extension, Abuja, now has stickers bearing the EFCC logo pasted on the gate. According to the EFCC, the house is worth about N860m.

The EFCC had alleged before an Abuja Federal High Court that, “while being the Chief of Air Staff, Nigerian Air Force, between March and April 2012, in Abuja, within the jurisdiction of the court did the accused (Umar) use the United States dollars equivalent of the sum of N860,000,000 (Eight hundred and sixty million naira) removed from the accounts of the Nigerian Air Force to purchase for yourself a property lying and situate at plot 1853 Deng Xiano Ping Street, off Mahathir Mohammed street, Asokoro extension Abuja.”

The anti-graft agency had also alleged that Umar removed another N700m from the accounts of the NAF to purchase a property at 14, Vistula Close, off Panama Street, Maitama, Abuja, while N500m was removed from the accounts of the NAF to purchase a property comprising a four-bedroomed duplex at Road 3B, Street 2, Mabushi Ministers Hill, Abuja.

The ex-CAF, who was arraigned for an alleged N7bn scam, had denied all the allegations against him.

According to Punch there was tension within the Nigerian Navy as the EFCC commenced investigations into the three arms of the Armed Forces.

“However, with this new directive, we will go after the navy. We are aware that part of the NIMASA fraud also involved some navy personnel. We will now do a full-scale investigation [and get the looters].”

We Will Deal With Niger Delta Avengers Eventually – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has reiterated his resolve to deal with those involved in blowing up oil installations in the Niger Delta region.

Assuring that such persons and their sponsors will be punished, Buhari disclosed that he had ordered service chiefs to get the perpetrators.

Buhari, who spoke on the sideline of his London meeting, said: “What I know is that I was elected by the whole country and the least I can do is to keep the country together somehow. I assure you we will develop the capacity to do it. “If you can recall, I appointed a retired Brigadier General (Boroh).

When I give people assignment, I develop terms of reference for them and I allow them to do their work. I understand the problem.

“I spoke with the Chief of Naval Staff and other service chiefs to work with him and help him to make sure that those who are blowing the installations, sabotaging investments in Nigeria, we will deal with them eventually.”

On whether his government has reneged on the amnesty programme, Buhari said: “They are saying that the agreement on amnesty, including payment and training and employment were not being met. These are their allegations.

“So we put this officer who is from there to revisit the agreement and get them and see which part of the agreement the Federal Government needs to fulfill. “The fundamental thing is that we have to secure Nigeria before we can manage it efficiently. I assure you that we are going to do that. Try and develop confidence in our ability to do it eventually.”

Meet The Powerful Man Behind President Buhari’s Many Decisions (See Photos)

The elected president of Nigeria is Muhammadu Buhari but there is a power behind the throne that many Nigerians are not even aware of.

This person is so powerful and influential that he is said to have the closest ear of the president, more than anyone else.

His name is Mamman Daura. The two men are related by blood: President Buhari is Mamman Daura’s uncle although Daura is two and half years older than the president. The nephew-uncle relationship is described as extremely close and date back to childhood years.

Now that Buhari is in power as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, the relationship is said to have even taken another dimension entirely with Daura wielding near-absolute power and authority.

When Buhari overthrew Shagari in 1983, Daura was one of the few people Buhari trusted enough to give principal advisory roles. By the late 1980s, he had succeeded Ibrahim Dasuki as the head of the African International Bank.

He later also served as chairman of the board of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and if there is anyone who Buhari always listened to and confided in over the years, it is Mamman Daura but many are now complaining bitterly that the relationship is getting too close for comfort and will negatively affect all the policies of the Buhari administration which is already struggling to cope with economic and security challenges.

In the photos above, when Katsina APC delegates went to pay Buhari courtesy visit as President-Elect, Daura was visibly by his side. He has never left.

An industrialist and later editor and managing director of New Nigeria newspaper (one of the most influential publications in Nigeria at a point), Mamman Daura has been described as ‘intensely engaging, extremely intelligent and brilliant‘. However, not everyone agree with that description.

Reliable sources within the Aso Rock Presidential Villa are raising an alarm that there is a dangerous power tussle within the camps of support around the president. They claim Daura has cornered everything and has blocked access to the president.

Even some of the most loyal supporters of the president and some of the president’s family members are very bitter as to how Daura cut off everyone else from the president.

Daura lives in the Aso Rock Presidential Villa and whenever he is off to his Kaduna residence, he is said to have access to the jets of the Nigerian Presidential Air Fleet and make use of them as he so desires.

Daura is said to have more access to the presidential fleet than many elected officials in government and even the wife of the President, he is that close and influential to the president. He seems to have been given a free hand to operate as he likes and determine who gets what as far as the presidency is concerned.

The education minister reportedly got the appointment because of Daura’s approval and nomination.

His security network both in Abuja and Kaduna are said to rival that of the president himself with his Kaduna residence guarded round the clock by a detachment of heavily-armed soldiers. His convoy is also said to be nothing but presidential.

While revealing to our field correspondents, aides and close advisers of the president accuse Daura of cornering all the appointments, contracts, deals and even collecting millions from people before allowing them have access to the president or get any appointment approved.

They say that many appointments in Buhari’s cabinet were heavily influenced by Daura. They went to further explain that if you are not in Daura’s good books, you can as well forget seeing the president or even getting any appointment or approval from the presidential villa.

Many insiders who pleaded anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the matter and would not want to be found in the direct path of Mr. President are gravely worried that Daura has walled off the president from good and diverse advice and fear that it is a matter of time before the adverse effects will start manifesting to all Nigerians.
