PHOTOS: He attacked me with a knife". A man said about the police

The man whose pictures appeared here told the news men in Abuja that he was attacked with a knife by two men of the Nigeria police force. Mr Abdullahi disclosed this when some men of the media interviewed him
According to his explanation, the two police men beat the hell out of him as he was trying to settle an issue with a fellow commuter. The incident occurred along Wuse market in Abuja on monday. Mr Abdullahi told the media that he did not do any thing to these men,he said his car accidentally brushes another car behind as he was reversing, the two police men noticed what happened and approached him with the other person and demanded for his driver's licence. According to him,he asked why demanding for his licence.
Mr Abdullahi said before he could realise what was going on,one of the police men slapped him,as that wasn't enough the other one slapped him againg. So on the process of trying to protect himself and his car, he cut the wrist watch of one of them. As a result, the two police men started beating him. They beat him to the extent that one of them even tried to stab him with a knife before passers-by intervened to save his life. As you can see in these pictures, the man was seriously beaten with severe injuries.

Senate gives conditions for screeninng ministerial nominees

The senate at today's plenary session resolved that all ministerial nominees must have the endorsement of 2 senators from their state before they could be granted a pass during their screening.

Chairman of the Senate ad hoc committee on Media and Publicity, Dino Melaye who announced the new conditions today, said the upper legislative arm will also adopt other constitutional provisions and conventions for screening nominees.

He said the Senate would also apply Section 147 of the Nigerian constitution which states that a ministerial nominee must be an indigene of one of the 36 states of the federation, before that person can be screened.

Melaye however did not state what will be the outcome if a ministerial nominee fails to get the support of 2 senators from their state of origin. It appears former River state governor, Rotimi Amaechi may be having a tough time at the senate with this new condition as all 3 PDP senators from his state have expressed their opposition against his nomination.

In a related development, some of the minsiterial nominees have reported to the Nigeria Police Headquarters for profiling as directed by President Buhari. Those that have reported so far includes former Lagos state governor Babatunde Fashola, Audu Ogbe, Chris Ngige, Udoma Udo Udoma and Abubakar Malami.

This is a press statement. Read below
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike on Wednesday received the report of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry established by his administration to investigate the sale of valued Rivers State Government property and other related matters by the administration of former Governor, Rotimi Amaechi.

From Right: Rivers State Governor,  Nyesom Ezenwo Wike receiving the report of the Rivers State Commission of Inquiry on the Sale of Valued Assets from the Chairman,  Justice George Omereji at Government House,  Port Harcourt on Wednesday.
The Governor who received the report from the Commission’s Chairman,  Justice George Omereji at the Government House,  Port Harcourt declared that his administration will diligently implement the recommendations of the Commission in the interest of the state and her people.

This is as the Chairman of the Commission of Inquiry,  Justice George Omereji advised the state government to act on the report quickly to ensure that billions of Naira of state funds stashed in private accounts are recovered.

The governor declared that in addition to implementing the report, his administration will make the content public and also intimate the public on the next line of action.

Governor Wike said: "We will make sure that we swing into action immediately to see that the recommendations by the Commission are implemented.

"We will not be intimidated by anybody or group of persons. So many things have been done to discredit your commission.  But to me,  I know when the hands of a person are not clean, he resorts to the media."

While commending members of the Commission for serving the state honestly,  Governor Wike acknowledged that the he is aware of the threats they faced in the course of carrying out the state assignment.

He said : "I know the threats you and your members faced. But what is important in life is once you are clean and your conscience is clear, go ahead and do what is right".

Earlier,  the Chairman of the Rivers State Commission of Inquiry into the sale of Valued State Assets and other related matters,  Justice George Omereji informed the governor that the commission received 442 exhibits,  27 memoranda while 25 witnesses testified before it.

He added that the commission visited several sites in line with its terms of reference.

According to him: "Government should act fast on the report and Rivers people will be better for it. If government acts fast,  we will be able to recover billions stashed into where they kept them. That money belongs to the Rivers people and I hope government would act fast to recover it, so that it would be used for the people of Rivers State".

He noted that the commission’s work was delayed by two suits filed by former governor Amaechi and Mr Augustine  Wokocha.  He said the commission only started sitting after the dismissal of the suits.

It will be recalled that Governor Wike set up the commission with the  mandate  to investigate the sale of the following :Omoku 150 MW gas turbine, Afam 360 MW gas turbine, Trans-Amadi 136 MW gas turbine and the Eleme 75 MW gas turbine.

The panel also investigated the sales of Olympia Hotel, the execution of the Mono-rail project, non-execution of the Justice Adolphus Karibi-Whyte Specialist Hospital after the payment of Thirty-nine million and two hundred thousand dollars to the contractor.

The Commission also investigated the disbursement and use of the Rivers State Ministry of Agriculture credit guarantee scheme fund of N2billion and the withdrawal of  N96 billion from the State Reserve Funds. The panel was also mandated to ascertain the circumstances of the sales of the four gas turbines and to identify the purchasers and also confirm whether the transaction was conducted with  transparency.

FIFA bans Sepp Blatter for 90 days

FIFA ethics committee has suspended its president Sepp Blatter for 90 days. Head of the committee,  Klaus Stoehlker, who has advised Blatter in the past, says the committee made the ruling pending further investigations by the Swiss attorney general following accusations of corruption.

He described it as a "pending" verdict, and said no negative finding had been made against the head of world football's governing body.

The announcement comes just hours after Blatter criticized the criminal investigation against him in Switzerland, describing it as "outrageous". He also defended his decision to remain as head of the football organising body and not step down immediately, as worldwide sponsors have urged.

The 90-day suspension is the longest FIFA's ethics committee can hand down while they carry out their investigation.

Last month, the Swiss attorney general announced that Blatter will face charges of "criminal mismanagement" and "misappropriation." Among the charges is an allegation that Blatter gave a "disloyal payment" to UEFA president Michel Platini totaling 2 million francs ($2.1 million). That payment is alleged to have been made three months before Platini announced he would not run against Blather in the 2011 FIFA presidential election.

"We have clues on those involved in recent bombings"- ARMY

Major General Yusuf Abubakar made the statement on Sunday, October 4, while speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria in Maiduguri. Reacting to the recent spate of suicide bombings by suspected insurgents in some parts of the country, the Theater Commander, Operation 'Layiya Dole" pointed out that the bombings were aimed at diverting the attention of the military from achieving its target in the ongoing anti-terrorism war.

"I want to assure all that for every second that passes, we get more committed to fighting the insurgents; we cannot be deterred. We are doing as much as we could to ensure that we completely eradicate the insurgents as quickly as possible because we are aware of the timeline within which to complete the task", he said.
He said the military had already gotten clues about those involved in the recent suicide bombings in Maiduguri.
"We searched the houses and certain items that we recovered at the vicinity gave us some clues", Abubakar said.
He said although investigations had commenced on the clues, it would take time before reaching a conclusion.
"Investigation on those that we suspect that are either participating or hiding, fueling or conniving with those that carried out those acts, is ongoing. "They will be exposed in due course", Abubakar assured.
He appealed to Nigerians to be security conscious to avoid future occurrence.
"The citizens need to know that security is their personal responsibility as individuals. They must be able to secure themselves and doing so means they need to be security conscious. Any suspicious movement within the environment should be reported to security agents immediately", he advised.
Abubakar said the military was working on a strategy that would enable individuals pass vital information to security agents without being noticed.

Woman aborts her unborn baby because she wants to get a nose jobe and star in a porn movie

British woman, Josie Cunningham checked into a clinic last week to abort her unborn child, so that she could have a nose job done. Josie said she terminated the unplanned pregnancy at 12 weeks because Doctors told her it was too risky to have nose surgery while pregnant.

“I’m having this nose job no matter what gets in my way. Pregnancy was a major obstacle and an abortion was the answer to it – so that’s what I did. Anyone who criticises me for putting my looks ahead of an unborn child has no right until they’re the ones putting food on the table for my kids. I don’t care what anyone thinks. My body, my decision.” She told the Sunday People

Josie's ultrasound photo on Sept 9th 2015
The mum of three from Leeds went on: “I put my life on hold for my other kids. But now is my chance to get the looks I need so I can have the career I always wanted.
"And I’ll love the money.”
Scrounging Josie , who has worked as an escort, was already a national hate figure after a string of shocking antics.

She had a £4,800 boob job and botox on the NHS, smoked and boozed while pregnant and admitted she had planned to abort her youngest child because she had a chance of going on Big Brother.

Public outrage led to her cancelling the abortion in April last year and keeping baby Grace, who is now one.
But Josie, 25, has now gone through with her threat to sacrifice a child in pursuit of money after becoming pregnant for a fourth time.
All her pregnancies have been with different men.

She said: “It’s not like I planned this. I was seeing someone I liked and got a bit brutal in the bedroom. We did use a condom but it split.
“I was meant to take the morning after pill but I had a photoshoot the following morning and didn’t get a chance to run into a pharmacy.
“I thought I was safe and sometimes you have to put your career first.”
She said: “I had already booked a consultation at a cosmetic surgery company before I found out I was pregnant.
"I’d had the boobs done, I had the body. But I realised that to be really successful in the adult industry I needed the face too.
“I was excited about getting the nose I’ve always wanted. Mine is too wide and too round at the end.
“When I found I was pregnant I told the dad and he was really happy.
“But I was already thinking about the effect having another baby would have on my plans. I want to do glamour and some more adult work, like porn films.
"That is hard when you’re pregnant or have just had a baby.
“I spoke to the advisor at the cosmetic surgery clinic three weeks ago and she was telling me about the different kinds of surgery.
"I was getting really excited. But when I mentioned I was pregnant she immediately said the surgeon wouldn’t operate on me.
“I was told it could harm the baby and they even recommend waiting a year even after I gave birth before having it done.
"I called a few other clinics and they all said the same. My heart sank but I knew what I had to do.”

Josie with her youngest child she almost aborted last year
She said: “People can hate me – but the pregnancy was going to ruin my chance of finally making it. I’d been planning and saving for this surgery and nothing was going to get in my way.
“I’m not stupid enough to think I’m model material right now – but with a nose job I can have the career I dream of.
“Of course it’s bad timing and I am sad. But I’d have been more sad if I couldn’t carry out my plans. Next year I’ll be posing for glamour shots instead of nine months pregnant lying on the sofa with fat ankles.
"That’s my decision and no one else’s.”
Josie is not worried that her attitude will shock many people.
She said: “People can think what they like. It’s my life, my body, my baby. Therefore its my decision. Every woman has a right to that decision.”
Defiant Josie who admitted last year she did not know whether the father of her youngest child was a footballer or a client she met while working as a £1,000-a-night escort – claims bullying in part sparked her controversial decision.
She said: “I’ve dreamt of a nose job for years because I’ve been told for years that I’m ugly because of my nose. You can’t bully me for the way I look then do the same when I try to change it".

Josie also insists her decision was best for everyone, including the baby’s father and her two sons and a daughter.
She said: “The cracks were already appearing in our relationship after seven months and we weren’t going to last. I didn’t tell my boys I was pregnant so they haven’t lost anything and Grace is too young to know what’s going on.”
She also defends being a mum and an adult movie star at the same time.

What Buhari is bringing to the table as oil minister - Femi Adesina

Special Assistant to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina was a guest on AIT's programme Kakaaki yesterday October 1st where he spoke about Pres. Buhari's recent announcement that he will be overseeing the Ministry of Petroleum resources. According to Femi Adesina, Buhari will be bringing his track record of integrity and transparency while he served as Minister of Petroleum during Obasanjo's military administration in the 70s. Excerpts from the interview after the cut

"What would the President be bringing to the table, if he is going to supervise the petroleum ministry? He has been Minister of Petroleum for 31/2 years , that is a lot of experience. Those were years that things were done fairly properly in this country. There are things that never change in life. These include integrity, transparency, truth and responsibility. Those things never change and those are the things the President would bring to bear"he said

Q: First of all, let’s look at the President's October 1 broadcast. What do you make of it?
A: We must recognise that it is a National Day broadcast, and he started by reviewing the state of the polity, particularly our march towards nationhood 55 years after flag independence. Are we a nation yet? Are we just a conglomeration of ethnic nationalities? I think on a day like this, that is the most important thing, all the others are ancillary, though important. It was an efficient broadcast, it may be short but it touched a number of crucial issues.
Q: One issue that has been generating lots of reactions is the ministerial list. The President did promise sometime in July that he was going to name his ministers in September. But what we saw was a submission of ministerial list to the National Assembly.
A: We also need to mind the process and the procedure, Our federal lawmakers would be the first people to kick if the President just reeled out the names of the Ministers and their portfolios. That would not be in order. What he does is to nominate and send to the Senate and after clearance, the Ministers begin to work. At any given time, procedure must be followed.
Q: Part of the broadcast that a lot of people would have loved to hear more from the President is the issue of national unity and inclusiveness in running the affairs of state. It appears that the President did not dwell on that and a lot of people looking at Nigeria believe that national unity and inclusiveness appear to be quite elusive. One would have expected the President to reassure the country that Nigeria stays as one and this is what I am going to do so that everyone has a sense of belonging.
A: Well, let me read this paragraph if you will permit, the President says here, “We have all the attributes of a great nation, we are not there yet because the one commodity we have been unable to exploit to the fullness is the unity of purpose .This would have enabled us to achieve not only more orderly political evolution and integration , but also, continuity and economic progress. Countries far less endowed have made greater coherence and unity of purpose”. So, he touched on what you said.
Q: Yes, he touched on it, but what I mean is that he should have dwelled on it, talking about Nigeria at 55.
A: You should also realize that he is President, and he should not be dwelling on just challenges, rather he should be working to achieve solutions , which is quite better.
Q: There are some agitations that the President seems to favour some parts of the country, so the eagerness to see who and who will make the ministerial list...
A: He also said that order is better than speed. What Nigerians want in these appointments appears to be speed, so that they can calculate how many are from the North, South, East and West, and all that. But we will get there, that is what the President is saying.
Q: The President wants to manage the country’s resources and he didn’t make any statement about the economy or the real sector, why is this so?
A: I think we are forgetting that it is a National Day broadcast. It is about Nigeria, our people, the way we have lived together. What are the challenges and how are the challenges being surmounted? All those other things cannot necessarily come into a National Day broadcast, that is what I feel.
Q: How long shall Nigerians wait for the President to say something on the economic direction?
A: The economic direction is not an opinion of one man but an aggregation of what a team feels and what they have agreed upon. That team is unfolding, we have a list of proposed ministers, that list has not been unfolded and when they are approved with their portfolios , they are the ones that will articulate the economic direction. What if the President as one man has said ,this is the direction and the team comes and feels different?
Q: Not as one man, because he has said that he has been in consultation with the Vice President and some other individual concerning solutions to our problems . Based on that statement, Nigerians are expecting that …
A: That would still not amount to an economic direction.
Q: Let us talk about some things. It was reported that the President says that his relationship with the Senate president would depend on the outcome of the Code of Conduct trial. Could you confirm that ?
A: I was at a session in New York when the President was granting that interview to Sahara TV and he said the relationship between them is cordial. The interviewer asked if they communicate and he said , yes, many times. There were some appointments that he couldn’t have made without writing the senate president. He was further asked what would be the relationship in the light of the code of conduct tribunal trial that is going on, and he said, “Yes, I have to wait for that process to end and that would determine the relationship”, which I think is just right.
Q: Ok, I think that you need to break it down further, when he said that he needs to wait for the process before the relationship becomes cordial. Does it mean, it is not cordial right now?
A: There is separation of powers between the executive and legislature…
Q: The President and Senate president are from the same party and they need to have a very cordial working relationship for the President to succeed.
A: Is there an indication that the relationship is not cordial?

Q: From the statement of the President that he is awaiting the outcome of the trial, it has pitched him on a particular level… it seems the President is saying that the senate President should not come close to me pending when the trial is over, to know whether you are clean enough or not.
A: What the president meant was that he was not going to interfere in any way and the process must play out. He was emphatic about that and of course if the process finishes, whichever way it goes, it determines the relationship between the two individuals. For a government that pays high premium on transparency and accountability, it is very important that whoever is in a top decision must be seen to be accountable to the people.
Q: One would also ask if the President is conscious of the assumption of innocence until proven guilty.
A: In all he has said, there is nowhere that assumption has been breached, No way and nowhere that it has been breached. He says that the Senate president is innocent for now and when the process ends, they continue the relationship.
Q: Ok now, let’s look at the ministerial list that was sent (September 30). We understand from what is in the news that just a few names were sent to the Senate, can you confirm this? And when would the rest be sent?
A: The President himself was clear about that, he said the first batch but nobody knows how many is in the batch
Q: I am sure that you know…
A: laughs... No…No…, you know, you are a news person and you can’t depend on everything you hear. It has been addressed to the Senate president, the list is there, he will unfold it officially. Nobody can say precisely how many. You said a few, you can’t be sure because the Senate president has not unfolded it.
Q: How many people are in the batch?
A: Well, it depends on the President. There are certain prerogatives that the President has. Ministers are one of them. He has said that this is the first batch, I think that we should wait and see who are those in the first batch and after that we know how many remains, because the constitution already states that there must be a minister in each of the states. We have 36 states in the country, so when the list is unfolded, we know how many remains.
Q: You have just returned from the United Nations General Assembly in New York, we heard that a lot of things happened there, like missing meetings that the President was supposed to attend.
A: Now, let me talk about the supposedly missed meeting. The truth is that, you don’t miss meetings that you are not scheduled to attend, That is just the truth. If you are not scheduled for a meeting, can you miss it? No.
Q: Was Nigeria not scheduled for the meeting?

A: No, Nigeria was not scheduled to be at that meeting, that is the truth.
Q: O'Brien of the UN was reported as saying that he was quite disappointed that Nigeria was not at that meeting.
A: We have a Permanent representative at the UN, Prof Joy Ogwu. The invitations Nigeria received are seven pages in all. I have them. You won’t see that meeting in any of the invitations that we got. Nigeria was not invited to that meeting and not scheduled to be there. With the passion that our President has on the Boko Haram, do you think that he will receive an invitation to a meeting that will discuss that issue and he will not be there? The truth is that Nigeria was not invited. We have said it and even the President has said in an interview before leaving New York and I guess that should rest the matter. What is happening, as far as I am concerned is storm in a teacup. A lot of people just want to find faults unnecessarily. Nigeria was not invited to that meeting, if she had been invited , she would have been there.
*Secondly, it was a meeting on Boko Haram and insurgency, there were two high levels meetings within the General Assembly days and Nigeria was at those meetings. It simply shows that she was not invited to the earlier one. Let me make this statement: it’s like Nigerians have been lied to so much that they find it difficult to now believe the truth. And the truth is that Nigeria was not invited to that meeting.
Q: Even if the President was not invited , was the Nigerian delegation aware of that meeting?
A: How could the Nigerian delegation be aware, when it was not scheduled? I have told you that every meeting that Nigeria was scheduled to attend, I have the list here and that meeting was not there. Nigeria was not scheduled for the meeting.
Q: What would have informed the President's desire to want to become the Minister of Petroleum, when he is talking about reforming the NNPC, making it transparent? Does he not trust anyone or believe that there are capable people who can be trusted to manage this ministry properly?
A: I think the question, we will ask ourselves is: What would the President be bringing to the table, if he is going to supervise the petroleum ministry? He has been Minister of Petroleum for 31/2 years , that is a lot of experience. Those were years that things were done fairly properly in this country.
Q: A lot of people will say that things have changed over the years and lots of structures have also changed and those days may have gone….
A: But there are things that never change in life. These include integrity, transparency, truth and responsibility. Those things never change and those are the things the President would bring to bear.
Q: In the newspaper review this morning, it was reported that 21 names made the ministerial list. Now, based on the constitution, a Minister must be selected from every state. So, if the President wants to supervise the ministry of petroleum resources, how will this work out eventually? Does this mean that a particular state will have 2 slots?
A: The constitutional requirement you quoted talks about the minimum , it states that there must be 36 number of ministers, at least one from each state. We have lived in this country where we had 46, 48 ministers and all that. That already shows you that 36 is the minimum requirement but this administration is one that wants to cut cost. We don’t expect that it would have a ballooned number of ministers.
Q: What would you say to Nigerians out there, who think that perhaps if some institutions are working, talking of EFCC, ICPC and some other regulatory and enforcement agencies, we won’t be talking about recycling of ministers or minister of petroleum in the person of President Muhammadu Buhari.
A: What is wrong with recycling if that person has something he is bringing to the table? Recycling would be wrong if that person is adding no value. But if he is adding value, what is wrong with recycling? I tell you that this is one appointment, if you can call it so, that will bring a lot of value to that ministry.
Q: You said earlier that the President is bringing in honour, integrity, truth all those virtues into the ministry’s package. And the President has taken over 3 months to appoint ministers. I wonder, has he not found a Nigerian with all these qualities to run that office? We have seen in this country, where a former president oversaw this sector and there was not much difference.
A: Don’t forget that the buck stops at the President’s table. At the end of his administration, it is going to be called the Buhari administration and not the name of any Minister. Therefore, it is very important that what the President feels would make a difference in the country is what he does. At the end of the day, that administration would be rated with his name and not any other name.

Q: The last words from you Mr. Adesina before you go
A: Well, I will just like to say that Nigerians trusted this President, they elected him into office, let them continue to maintain that trust, and at the end of the day, they will not be disappointed.

"Ban all fulani herdsmen activities in yoruba land" Afenifere said

Following the kidnap of former presidential candidate Olu Falae by suspected fulani herdsmen in Ondo state last week Monday, leaders of Pan Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, have called for a ban to be placed on the activities of Fulani herdsmen in Yoruba land.

The group also condemned the kidnapping of the 77 year old elder statesman. They made their position known after an emergency meeting in Akure, Ondo state yesterday September 28th. Speaking through its Spokesman, Yinka Odumakin, the group said;

"We believe now that after what has happened to chief Falae, people would not tolerate such thing in any part of Yoruba land . So while we await the arrest of the criminals, the cattle rearing should be stop in Yoruba land. Yoruba people go to any part of the country to trade,no history or record of such anywhere that the Yorubas destroy the business of their host. What we cannot do to others, nobody should do it to us. We describe this as scandalous and chilling that the harrowing experience of the 77 year old man in the hands of vandals, miscreants. The Meeting did not considers it as a mere coincidence that chief Olu Falae for two to three years has been having running battles with the Fulani herdsmen on the very farm before he was abducted. Last of such was about two months earlier when they enter his farmland and destroyed it and chief Falae pursue the matter with the police and grudgingly accepted half of what the police said they should pay as compensation. The fulani elements coming to abduct him two months latter, is presumably a vengeance mission for justice that he pursued against the invasion of his farm and the destruction of his hand work. The meeting recalled that for years, farmers in Yoruba land has been expressing what chief Falae was going through in the hands of this nomadic cattle rearers. You will recalled that in year 2000 in Oke Ogun area of Oyo state, the fulani herdsmen and farmers had a major clash which led to a strong delegation from Arewa consultative forum to storm the office of the office of the then Governor Lam Adesina in a rowdy and angry manner on behalf of fulani . The meeting also noted that the 2014 national conference in which chief Falae led the Yoruba delegation ,extensively discuss this matter of nomadic cattle rearing and the conference resolved the it should be stopped and instead have ranches for cattle business. We condemned the abduction of Chief olu Falae and his gruesome experience as shameful, insensitive and a violent violation of Yoruba culture, values and space".

why I marry 18 year old adamawa princess - Emir of kano

Emir of Kano Muhammad Sanusi II has responded to criticisms following his marriage to 18 year old Sa'adatu Barkindo-Musdafa last week. In a private email sent to select people which has leaked to many social media platforms, he explained why he decided to marry Sa'adatu. Read below
"I am sure NC members all have their views and have kept quiet out of (appropriate) deference to our right to make our individual choice. Obviously I do not need to explain anything to anyone in a purely personal matter but a few points are worthy of note:
1. The lady in question is 18 and thererfore legally of age to marry under all laws and certainly inder Muslim law
2. She is proceeding for her undergraduate education in the UK in january. She had an A in computer science in her O levels and plans to get a degree in computer science
3 each and everyone of my wives is a university graduate and some have worked and fhen stopped and in each case the choice was purely theirs
4. It is a tradition in Kano that emirs and princes in choosing wives consider issues beyond the individual. The family is in every sense a social unit. My predecessor was married to princesses from Ilorin, Katsina and Somoto
5 The relationship between the late Lamido of Adamawa Aliyu Musdafa the father of the current Lamido is well known. Lamido Aliyu was the first emir turbanned after emir Sanusi I and they remained close until Sanusi’s death.
6. My own relationship with the current Lamido dates back to 1981 when he was Ciroma and commissioner for works. By the way the Lamido and I are not illiterates we know what we are doing and he does have a PhD in Engineering
7. My own mother was married in Adamawa and lived there for more than two decades and I have eight younger brothers and sisters from there
8 it is therefore natural that if I choose to marry from another kingdom Adamawa would be the first choice for me and I am extremely happy to strengthen these ling historical bonds
9. The young lady in question gave her free consent and even after the contract the wedding will not happen for a few years. By then she may be 21. If she freely consents to this I do not know on what moral grounds anyone has a grouse. She is an adult, she gave her consent, her education is not being in anyway interrupted.
10. The real issue is that people do not accept cultural difference. And you can see it in the approach to these issues. I am supposed to be urbane and western educated. Yes but i am not european. I am a northern Nigerian Fulani Muslim brought up in a setting exactly like the one my children are being brought up in.
If you read this and it improves your understanding of this issue that is fine. If it does not justvremember it us not your life, it is not your daughter and you are not my wife therefore it is not your business.
I obviously cannot stoop to the level of responding publicly to these kinds of articles. I have always been an advocate of girls marrying after maturing. I personally like the minimum age of 18 even though i understand those who say 16 is fine and indeed this is the law in most so calked @advanced@ countries.
Is this something that I expect a european or western trained or feminist mind to appreciate or endorse? Not at all. But has any american been bothered about my views on men marrying men or women marrying women which frankly I find primitive and bestial? No and my views do not matter. These are cultural issues.
Even in Nigeria I have heard all this stuff as in Pius article about “north” and northerners. Again it is a failure to respect difference. There are parts if this country where parents expect their daughters to live with their boyfriends for years and actually get pregnant before they marry. It has become culture. We do not have that in the north and if your daughter gets pregnant before marriage she brings nothing but shame to the name. But we do not issue condemnations. We agree that this is how they choose to live. And i can give many other examples.
When people use the term libido they do themselves injustice. First of all it shows how they view women and marriage. Women are nothing but the object of sexual desire. Marriage is nothing but sexual gratification. Well I am sorry but in my tradition it is not. Beauty and attraction rank third after religion and lineage in the choice of a wife. They see an 18 year old young lady. I see a princess of noble birth whose mother is also a princess, and who has been brought up in a good muslim home. This is the kind of woman that is prepared for hiving birth to princes and bringing them up for the role expected of them in society.
Martiage is both social and political. Expanding the links of kano which have already been established by my predecessors through inter marriage with katsina, sokoto, ilorin, katagum, ningi, bauchi etc to adamawa is an important and signifant step and this is obvious to anyone with a sense of how royal families work and Ibn Khaldun’s sociological concept of Asabiyyah. When the emir of Kano marries it has to be something beyond what he oersonally desires to what is appropriate for that position and the expectations of the people he represents. You dont just pick up any girl on the street. And by the way for thise who shout libido sex is cheap and available everywhere in all shapes and sizes and all colours if that is what they want. And all ages too. Martiage is a very different proposition. The mother of your children has to be something other than, ot at least much more than a mere object of sexual fantasy. But if you do not know that you need to buy yourself a brain.
I have daughters. And they know they can only marry from certain backgrounds. I always prefer family. When my daughter wanted to marry mouftah baba ahmed’s son and she asked me, knowing my views on family, i told her mouftah is family. And this is not about me and mouftah or me an hakeem or nafiu. No. It goes back to Baba Ahmed and Emirs Sanusi and Bayero. And the same rule applies to my sons. And it applied to me as well.

It is I am sure very strange that I should even bother to comment on this. But it would be hypocritical for me to just keep quiet so long as these things are being posted and commented upon explicitly or in a snide manner. There was no secrecy in the marriage fatiha. The date was fixed and it was to be done in the central mosque after friday prayers. The day before we had a tragedy in Saudi Arabia and decided the fatiha must be very low key as a mark of respect for the dead. All traditional rulers in adamawa were there, as were governors and commissioners, members of my own emirate council and adamawa people. There is nothing here to hide or be apologetic about.

The emirs of adamawa have shown love to my parents and grandparents and it is a sign of my appreciation of their love that i marry their daughter. This is the highest statement of friendship and loyalty on both sides.

Again if you understand this this is fine. If you do not buy yourself a brain, A la Pius.

In any event this is my one and final and only comment on this. And I am making it out of respect for NC members.”

Saudi paramedics favoured whites over africans in the hajj stampede

One of the survivors from the recent stampede in Saudi Arabia, an indigene of Osun State, resident in Warri, Delta State revealed that paramedics ignored African pilgrims and concentrated on rescuing white and Caucasian victims which resulted in a high casualty rate among Africans. He said he was stuck in the midst of dead bodies for more than two hours and there was no help from paramedics, who favoured whites over blacks.

"I tried to escape but it was impossible as I was stuck in the midst of many dead bodies and some people were climbing over me to find an escape. I struggled to get myself up to the waist level. From my toe to my waistline, people were all over and I could not get up. I was calling the Saudi police and paramedics on the scene to help me but they didn’t respond and I was stuck there for more than two hours as they were busy helping whites, with no response to my plea,"

Emir of kano secretly married 18 year old adamawa princess

the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, got married to his 4th wife, an 18 year old Adamawa princess.
"Emir of Kano just wedded Lamido Adamawa's daughter Sa'adatu. The Emir was absent but in attendance was the Wakili Kano and the governor of Kano. The wedding took place after juma'at prayers at the Lamido palace"
I didn't carry the story because there were no photos and I didn't have anyway of confirming it. But it looks like it may be true. A few online news sites have confirmed that the Emir indeed tied the knots with Sa’adatu Barkindo-Musdafa, the daughter of the Lamido of Adamawa, Muhammadu Barkindo Musdafa, yesterday

According to Premium Times, the lady recently completed secondary school and is being enrolled for advanced level studies. The secret wedding fatiha held inside the palace of the Lamido minutes after the Jumma’at prayer.  The emir only sent out invitation to some dignitaries across the country, and Kano government officials sneaked into Yola for the wedding fatiha to avoid journalists.

military accused borno state elite of working to scuttle the fight against B'haram

The Nigerian military has accused Borno state elites and political groups in the North East in general of working to undermine the efforts of the military in the fight against insurgency in that region. In a statement signed by Army spokesperson, Sani Usman, the military said such people are working to ensure the military's operation to end the insurgency fails because of certain benefits they are getting from the war. The statement reads;

"The Nigerian Army wishes to inform the public and send a very strong and serious final warning to some prominent individuals and political groups who hailed from Borno State in particular and North East generally, that there is information of plans by some highly placed individuals and political groups to undermine and scuttle the fight against terrorism and insurgency in this country. The unscrupulous individuals and their cohorts were determined to reverse the gains made and scuttle our efforts of achieving the Presidential directive to defeat Boko Haram terrorists within 3 months. They are enlisting the services of some Non-Governmental Organizations in this grand design. It has come to our knowledge that they were employing every means to see that the operation does not succeed in order for them to continue to enjoy certain benefits. It has been revealed that they are employing the services of marabouts and other unethical means in order to frustrate our efforts and the operations in addition to campaign of calumny. We are aware of their clandestine meetings and other diabolical efforts to achieve their nefarious aims. This would not be tolerated. Therefore, such individuals and groups should be warned in unmistakable terms that anyone found would be dealt with accordingly. People should place the interest of the nation above any personal gain or ambition. The continued lost of lives and property in this country through terrorists activities does not one any good,” the army spokesman said.

Buhari expresses sadness over death in hajj stampede

Press statement from the presidency
President Muhammadu Buhari is deeply saddened by the colossal calamity which occurred yesterday in the Saudi Arabia, claiming the lives of hundreds of pilgrims, including some Nigerians. President Buhari believes that the stampede at Mina in which a notable Nigerian Journalist, Hajiya Bilkisu Yusuf, Prof. Tijjani El-Miskin and others lost their lives is a monumental tragedy, not only for citizens of the countries involved, but for the global Islamic community.
The President extends sincerest condolences to the families of the over 700 pilgrims who lost their lives in this latest disaster in the Holy Places which occurred less than two weeks after a crane collapse in Mecca claimed more than a hundred lives. President Buhari commiserates with the Nigerian Guild of Editors and the Nigerian Union of Journalists on the sad loss of Hajiya Bilkisu, an exemplary, dedicated, knowledgeable, very credible, highly-respected, outstanding editor and columnist who, even in death, will remain a glittering role model for journalists, within and outside Nigeria.

The President has taken note of the assurance by the Government of Saudi Arabia that Thursday's catastrophe will be investigated and urges King Salman to ensure a comprehensive and thorough exercise that will identify any flaws in Hajj organisation with a view to avoiding a recurrence of such tragedies during the annual pilgrimage.

In the knowledge that it is not within our powers to question the will of God, President Buhari prays that Almighty Allah will comfort the families who lost their beloved ones in the stampede and receive the souls of all those who died in the Holy Land while fulfilling the religious obligation of the Hajj. NNPC may sell refineries that don't meet the ultimatum on rehabilitation-GMD

The Group Managing Director of NNPC, Ibe Kachiukwu says there are plans by the oil corporation to sell off refineries that do not meet up the deadline for their rehabilitation. Kachiuwku made the disclosure while speaking to newsmen in Lagos recently
"By the end of December when the 90-day ultimatum will expire, any refinery that does not work optimally will be sold. I am determined to make a difference during my tenure. We are losing N2.2 trillion monthly to refinery inefficiency. As at today, the average refining performance is 30 per cent.
If by December, the refineries don’t work, I will export crude allocation and import refined petroleum products until we fix the refineries. Right now, the Port Harcourt refinery is showing signs that it will meet the December deadline. However, I am not saying Warri and Kaduna refineries will not meet the deadline, but I hope they all make it, so that we can continue to utilise our crude allocation to boost domestic refining.’’he said

Saudi arabia to behead and crusify young protester arrested when she was 17 years old

Saudi Arabia is to execute Ali Mohammed al-Nimr, a Shi’ite Muslim over his role in anti-government protests in 2012, despite protests that he was a minor when arrested. Activists say he could be beheaded and crucified as early as his week.

Ali Mohammed al-Nimr, the nephew of a prominient Shi’ite cleric was given the death penalty in May after taking part in demonstrations three years ago for democracy and equal rights in Saudi Arabia’s oil-producing Eastern Province as a 17-year-old high school student.

A court later convicted him of charges including belonging to a terror cell, attacking police , incitement and stoking sectarianism. His final appeal was rejected when the Appeals Court and High Court ratified his verdicts last week. Human rights groups, journalists and politicians have expressed outrage and taken to social media to call attention to the case.

According to CNN, a group of U.N. experts has joined rights groups in calling on Saudi Arabia to halt the execution. "Any judgement imposing the death penalty upon persons who were children at the time of their offense, and their execution, are incompatible with Saudi Arabia's international obligations," the U.N. group said in a statement on Tuesday, invoking the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child, to which Saudi Arabia is a part of.

Yesterday France joined a growing international call to pardon al-Nimr. "France is concerned about the situation of Ali Mohammed al-Nimr, who was sentenced to death even though he was a minor at the time of the events," foreign ministry spokesman Romain Nadal said. "Opposed to the death penalty in all cases and circumstances, we call for the execution to be called off."

France statement came a day after United Nations rights experts called on Riyadh to halt Nimr’s “imminent execution” "Saudi Arabia’s plans to behead and crucify someone arrested as a child are indefensible,” said Donald Campbell, spokesman for international human rights charity Reprieve. "The international community –particularly Saudi Arabia’s close allies, the UK and the U.S. – must stand with the French government and U.N. experts against this outrage, and call on the Saudi authorities to put a halt to this unjustified killing."

The conviction of Nimr followed that of Rida al-Rubh, 26, the son of another cleric who has been critical of the authorities. The clerics are part of a group of around a dozen defendants on trial for their part in protests and violent unrest in Qatif, particularly in the village of Awamiya, where police officers and facilities have been attacked. Al-Nimr's parents are expected to visit him on Friday.

It will be the first time they have seen him since his appeal was denied. "Ali has always been an optimistic and outgoing person," a close family source said. "I feel helpless. I don't know. This is life in Saudi Arabia" he added.

Latest reports reveals that Ali made a short telephone contact with his family few hours ago.

Pastor Kumuyi urges Nigerians to shun clubbing, cultism and other negative social habit

The General Superintendent, Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Kumuyi has charged Nigerians to shun night clubs, cultism and other social vices. Kumuyi made the call while speaking on the topic “The Supernatural Beginning of a Better Future,” at the ongoing Lagos City-wide Crusade in Agege, Lagos.

According to P.M News, he urged Nigerians to root out the habit of night clubbing, cultism and other negative social pastimes from their lives and surrender to Jesus who has the power to break the negative habits from their lives.

"Every plant that has not been planted in your life shall be rooted out. You would have gone to school, but night club will not allow you; you would have earned money but roaming about will not allow you. The original plan and purpose of God for your life will be fulfilled. People could not get the original plan God has for them because there has been a derailment. Satan, the society and sin conspired to derail your life with the cooperation of self. Your destiny which has been in the hand of Satan, the society and sin will be taken back. All that Satan has planted in your life to make you miss God’s plan for you will be taken away tonight. A glorious beginning is starting in your life today. You must cooperate with God by rooting out those things. That place where you engage in occultic practices, drunkenness, sucking of blood, adultery, robbing and others is not a place of rest because they will destroy you. You must not remain in sin. Awake and put on a new strength. Rise up from that evil and come to the Saviour and something good will come to your life" he said.

2015 election: we have no regrats voting our choice--OHANEZE

While speaking yesterday in Abuja at a press conference to kick-start the 2015 Igbo Day celebration, president of the Ohaneze ndigbo group in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mazi Odozi Elijah Nwodozi, said the Igbos had no regret voting for their choice during the last election
“In the 2015 elections, Ndigbos made a clear choice; it was decisive. We made the best choice, as known to us. So, we have no regrets, whether or not we are being punished for that choice. We are in a democracy. The president is the president of all, irrespective of how any region voted.
This simply shows character, that if an Igbo man decides to support you, he does so no matter the consequence. That shows we are unwaivered. Ndigbos are strong people. We are like a phoenix; we always rise from our ashes. We cannot be broken as a people. We will surely get to the promised land,” he said.

Doctor sold one week old baby for 300K

The police in Lagos have arrested a trado-medical doctor ─ Olawale Onalaja ─ for allegedly selling a week-old baby to a couple for N300,000 in the Iyana Ipaja area of Lagos.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the couple, Dele and Oluwakemi Ayangbile, who had also been arrested by the police, allegedly paid the sum to the native doctor before taking the baby to their apartment in the Mile 12 area.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the mother of the baby, 29-year-old Idiat Babatunde, was a student of a polytechnic in Osun State, and was preparing for her convocation when she was delivered of the baby on Saturday, September 5.

It was gathered that after the delivery, Idiat, who had a quarrel with her husband, Akinola Babatunde, had taken the baby to Onalaja, said to be a family friend, on September 13, and requested that he kept the child for her, while she travelled to school.

Our correspondent learnt that Onalaja, who lived in Ikola Odunsi Street in Iyana Ipaja, however, invited the Ayangbiles and sold the baby to them for N300,000.

It was learnt that when Idiat returned from school, Onalaja lied that the baby was in custody of a government-owned orphanage where he would be properly taken care of.

Our correspondent gathered that the buyers, the Ayangbiles, took the week-old baby to their rented apartment. But their suspicious landlord was said to have reported the matter at the Ketu Police Division after the baby had been with the couple for three days.

Our correspondent learnt that the police thereafter arrested the Ayangbiles, and also picked up Onalaja.

The wife, Oluwakemi, said she had been barren since 2009 when she got married, adding that Onalaja, who was a family friend, had earlier advised her to adopt a child.

She said, “I have known the traditional doctor since 2013. I got married in 2009 and I used to have miscarriages. It was while looking for treatment that I met him. In 2014, he advised that I should adopt a baby, but I did not agree.

“Two Mondays ago, he called me on the telephone and said I should meet him. He told me that he had a baby at hand to give us, adding that he would obtain all the necessary papers. I then discussed it with my husband and he said we should go for the baby since Onalaja was going to get the papers. He did not tell us that the baby’s mother was not aware of the transaction.

“I paid him N300,000, and brought the baby home. But after three days, the police came to arrest my husband and I. We have been barren for six years, and we need a child. We mean no harm to the baby.”

Onalaja, however, told our correspondent he collected only N156,000 from the couple, which was the sum to process papers from the government ministry in Alausa.

He said, “The agreement between the mother of the baby and I was that I would take the baby to an orphanage. The mother agreed to collect the baby back after three months in government’s custody.

“It is true that I collected N156,000 from Kemi and gave the baby to her. I wanted to take the baby to Alausa to register in an orphanage. But I was called on the telephone that the couple was arrested by the police. That was how I was also arrested. I do not sell babies. The mother is known to me.”

The mother of the baby, Idiat, said she had a quarrel with her husband, who was away in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and she gave the baby to Onalaja, so she could concentrate on her academics.

She said, “I had a quarrel with my husband, and so he was not at home when the baby was born.

“I gave the baby to Onalaja a week after while I went to school. It was when I returned that I realised that my baby had been sold. But I am happy to be reunited with him.”

A police source, however, told our correspondent that the mother of the baby knew about the sale of the baby.

The Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, said the baby had been reunited with the parents, while the suspects would be charged to court.

The CP added that the command would not condone any act of criminalities in the state.

He said, “The couple, who were the beneficiaries of the baby, was arrested alongside the self-styled doctor. The police have recovered the baby and identified the parents.

“Although the baby has been returned to the mother, he is still under the watch of the Family Support Unit of the command.

“Investigation is almost concluded, and the suspects will appear in court soon.

sodiers capture boko haram kingpin, rescue 241 children and women

The war against terror received a major boost on Wednesday when Nigerian troops captured a member of the highest hierarchy of the Boko Haram group, Bulama Modu, along with 43 other members in Borno State.

Modu, a commander of the Amir cadre, which is the highest organ of the group, was captured when the troops destroyed Janguoriri and Bulatori Camps of the insurgents in northern Borno.

The acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, who confirmed the development, also said that women and children numbering 241 were rescued during the operation.

Usman said that the troops recovered some bows and arrows from Bulama who confessed that he also used a horse to carry out his murderous attacks on innocent people.

The Army spokesperson said that Boko Haram kingpins had resorted to burying their weapons in the sand, adding that some members of the group had abandoned their commanders in the heat of battle against the country’s Special Forces.

According to Usman, one terror suspect, Mohammed Modu, led the troops to a point where he buried his AK 47 rifle.

He said, “Please recall that yesterday, advancing troops along Banki axis made tremendous progress in which they cleared two Boko Haram terrorist camps at Jangurori and Bulatori villages.

“In addition to that, the troops have also arrested 43 suspected Boko Haram terrorists, including one of the Boko Haram kingpins in the area, Bulama Modu, who is an ‘Amir’ of Bulakuri. The troops also rescued 241 women and children during the operation.

“To further confirm what was said earlier about the terrorists abandoning their commanders and burying weapons, one Mohammed Modu led troops to where he buried his AK-47 rifle at Jangurori village.

“Apart from arms and ammunition, bows and arrows recovered from Bulama Modu, the kingpin, he confirmed that the terrorists also gave him a horse to enhance his deadly pursuits.”

Usman said that the troops also arrested one Aji Gambo at Wudla village who disclosed that the terrorists who attacked northern Cameroun were from Dara Jamel in Nigeria, where the insurgents had an Improvised Explosive Device factory.

Gambo was said to have told the troops that the IEDs used for the attack on northern Cameroun were prepared by the trio of Abdulrahaman Alkali, Ba’ana Hisuba and Alkali Isa Karami, all natives of Dara Jamel.

He added that the suspected insurgents had fled Dara Jamel for Sumbulun village.

Usman said that the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant Gen. Tukur Buratai, who had been monitoring the progress made in the campaign, commended the soldiers for their impressive performance.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has assured Nigerians that the days of Boko Haram insurgency are numbered.

He stated that the sect’s reign of terror in parts of the country would be over very soon, stressing that the ongoing military onslaught against the deadly sect would continue until total victory is achieved.

Buhari, in a statement by his Special Senior Assistant on Media and Publicity, Shehu Garba, on Wednesday, said he had directed the Armed Forces and other security agencies to provide maximum security across the nation during the Eid-el-Kabir prayers and celebrations, especially in areas most vulnerable to terrorist attacks.

The statement said, “President Buhari assures all Nigerians that the days of Boko Haram are numbered. Boko Haram’s reign of terror in parts of the country will be finally over very soon as the ongoing military onslaught against the terrorist sect will continue relentlessly until total victory is achieved.”

The President, who felicitated with all Nigerian Muslims as they celebrate this year’s Eid-el-Kabir, also congratulated all Nigerian pilgrims currently in Saudi Arabia for this year’s hajj.

In particular, Buhari urged Nigerian Muslims to rededicate themselves and imbibe the lessons of piety, faithfulness, dedication, fortitude, obedience, sacrifice and selfless service which he said were for the benefit of all mankind.

“The President called for more patience, fortitude, tolerance, endurance, patriotism and a greater willingness to make personal sacrifices for the good of all as his administration strives to lead the nation towards rapidly overcoming insecurity, economic and developmental challenges,” the statement added.

Buhari assured all Nigerians that their safety, wellbeing and progress remained uppermost in his thoughts and actions, promising to continue to work with all his might to deliver positive changes in national life.

The President extended heartfelt commiserations to families in North-East Nigeria who had lost relatives in recent terrorist attacks.
